Confidence

Confidence

“The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure.” – Sven Goran

When a person feels confident in themselves they are capable of doing many things. Confidence gives the strength to step out of comfort zones. Confidence gives the ability to be unashamedly who a person is without fear of the worlds opinion. Confidence grants courage to stand up to negative things and say that this is not how the story goes.

Gaining confidence can be hard and it doesn’t happen overnight. Sometimes a person can be so beaten down by life that even when they walk, their head is bend towards the ground. Through positive support, encouragement, and acceptance, self-worth is planted and begins to grow. Soon  a person can start to realize their own strengths.

It only takes a moment to plant and water the seeds of confidence in someones life.  A pat on the back, an encouraging word, a friendly smile for a job well-done, or even a listening ear.

Pick up your head.  Take that step.  Show the world who you are. We are all uniquely different, and marvelously made.

Dreams and Imaginations

Passions

The world is so diverse and the multitude of people – with their varying thoughts and ideas – help make the world go around. We have big dreams and wild imaginings, but if we are not careful, society will seek to diminish them.

From the way we look, to the state of our living conditions, the world sees us and instantly draws their own conclusions. We get told that our dream is too big. Or that we don’t really want to do this, here is something more reasonable. These words can come from anyone: family, friends, or even those who think they know us.

People have an inborn desire to fit in and be accepted, many let go of their dreams and settle for the next best thing because that will gain the approval of the ones around them.

Great things didn’t come from the people who sought to fit into another persons vision. The  wonderful things that we have now didn’t come about because someone gave up on their dream. If the people you associate yourself with are not pushing you to do better – in whatever aspect of your life – then perhaps it’s time to change.

Don’t abandon your wants because those around you don’t understand it. Find those that do. Find someone who’s doing what you want to do, who has dreams as big -or bigger- than your own, or even those who may not have big dreams but cheer you on towards your own, and you associate with them.

If the people in your life are not going to bring out the best in you, then why are you spending your time on them?  We never forget how to dream, or how to imagine great things, we only have a tendency to let others dictate the way our lives should go.

It’s your dream, not theirs, and you have a right to it.

Power of words

Evening Sun

“Words mean more than what is set down on paper.

It takes the human voice to infuse them with shades of deeper meaning.” – Maya Angelou

I will always believe that words are powerful things. The impact that they have on a person can last much longer than any physical rendering. What is said stays in a persons mind, repeating itself over and over again. It becomes the sound of our subconscious voice, and it influences our actions even years after it was originally said.

Silence -staying quiet- is the only comparable thing, in my mind, to words.

A single word can lift the soul and at the same time a single word can tear a person down. The orchestrator of peace, and the instrument of destruction, given to everyone.

Some people use too many words, their meaning lost.  Others don’t use enough. Then there are those who purposely use the power of words to get what they want out of a person or situation. Honey coated words with the stinger still attached. There are those who are stung so much by words that they’ve lost the ability to feel. They walk around numb, slowly sinking into an emotionless pit.

Recently I had been flirting with that pit, and not out of my own volition. Words of others had left their marks and then everything I was being told washed over me.  Good, bad, they were not given much thought and felt meaningless. Everything was waxing lyrical – they sounded pretty, and that’s about it.

While in this state words reached out to me, coming from a source who’s I knew were true. They were words that I needed to hear and, even though these same words may have been said by others before, they did not have the same impact. These words spoke life into my situation and helped to pull me back up.

They were simple words, but the best things are simple.

Words are powerful. You never know the impact they can have so we should be mindful of what we say to one another. Let us use our words to help and not hurt.

Look to the Light

jewel Done1

“When you get to the end of all the light you know and it’s time to step into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: either you will be given something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly.” – Edward Teller

Good days, bad days, and all the days in-between.  They can wear a person down and beat at their soul.  While the good days can have us feeling higher than a kite, the bad days can drive us into the darkness.  But, even in your darkest hour, there is light.  All you have to do is look up.
